Tomoe River Paper
The 52gsm paper is incredibly thin, and very fountain pen friendly. This paper shows off the sheen and shimmer in inks unlike any other paper can do.
Our Tomoe River paper is the same Tomoe River paper that's used in the Hobonichi Techo. We use the same 52 gsm paper as the Hobonichi.
Fountain pen enthusiasts who favor shading ink, those that create subtle color gradations as ink is laid on the paper, will appreciate how the paper shows off subtle color variations. Sheening inks also perform well as pools of color will sit on the surface of the paper and when dry will create the reflective look so many fountain pen users love. It’s important to be patient and let the paper fully dry to prevent smudging, especially when using sheening or metallic inks. Click here to read our blog post about Tomoe River Paper

I like this pad for my skeching and letters, very smooth the writting with my fountain pens.
I've been dying to get my hands on one of these new Galen Leather pads/notebooks as I'm a huge fan of Tomoe River paper. As expected with EVERYTHING I have ever gotten from Galen, it is fantastic! I slipped the back cover into the back flap on my A5 zippered cover and it fits GREAT....even with my Hobonichi Cousin on the other side! I use it to jot random notes for my FB group and podcasts, along with random ideas. I LOVE that the pages are perforated and the guides that come with it are a nice treat too. LOVE it!
I’m in love. The paper is beautiful in its sheer nature and the provided guides are so helpful. My pen doesn’t bleed and glides so nicely across the paper. Hard to use anything else now ! Pencil erases from under the pen marks as well! Any writer or pen based artist’s dream pad !
Excellent writing experience. You can't find a better quality fountain pen paper than Tomoe River. The only real negative is the price. It is costly compared to other valid choices such as Rhocia.
When I heard Tomoe River was being discontinued, I hoped to order some before it was too late. I was delighted to discover these lovely pads featuring the old paper. Will be perfect for ink swatching and note taking with my fountain pens.
All was beautifully packaged and I was thrilled to receive the included freebies. Especially the little drawstring bag. Such wonderful quality!
Thank you, Galen!
Tomoe River paper is always top quality and thats why I purchased this notebook. I wasn't able to purchase the 200 sheet notebook and this was the next highest sheet option. Packaging and everything was great but as soon as I turned up the front cover it was coming apart. The sheet of paper glued to the front of the notebook instantly pulled up. It's staying on my desk but still a bit disappointed.
I find this paper fantastic for the variety of uses I need it for. Variety of use by me is writing and sketching. Also, I have a variety of pens (60+) with different colors of ink and of course each pen's nib is slightly different than all the rest. Some are inexpensive pens (less than $10USD) with steel nibs and others are over $100USD with gold nibs. And this paper works beautifully with all of them.
So great to take notes on the way with my favorite fountainpens and inks...
Old Tomoe River paper is going away and increasingly scarce. While working from home lately, I've developed a preference for using my paper in pad form and these TR pads are a perfect fit for me. I'm sad that the company producing theses pads discontinued the machine that produced our beloved TR paper. This old version 52 gsm paper shows off sheen like nothing else, and these pads are great for scratching down some quick notes while at work. My only problem with these pads is with the staple binding on the top. It's not quite as well-bound as something like the Rhodia pads, but frankly that's a small price to pay for some of the last old version Tomoe River pads in existence. Galen also is kind enough to provide a blotter and guide sheets, plus a pretty attractive cover.
